Jiffy Mart Helps St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital

During the month of February, 2009, all four Jiffy Mart locations in Carroll County participated in St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital’s Boot Campaign. St. Jude is the world’s premier center for the research and treatment of cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.

Customers were able to purchase a boot symbol for one dollar, sign it, and have it hung at the location where it was purchased. Each of the four Jiffy Mart stores reached their goal of $780, with an additional contribution of $500 from Jiffy Mary Corporate, for a total raised of $3,620. The money raised went directly to St. Jude’s.

Because of generous donations such as these, no family at St. Jude’s ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance and families without insurance are never asked to pay. Their mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment, and St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and from around the world.

On February 13th and 14th, WPOC-FM 93.1 in Baltimore hosted it’s annual Radiothon, ”Country Cares for St. Jude’s Kids” to urge people to make contributions to this extremely worthwhile cause. Last year “Country Cares” raised 34 million in pledges nationwide and helped contribute to St. Jude’s, thanks to loyal listeners. Jiffy Mart’s General Manager, Debbi Frank, shared her feelings about contributing to children in need during the 8:00 AM hour on Friday, February 13th. Local listeners were able to pledge a donation by calling into WPOC-FM 93.1 or by stopping into one of four convenient Jiffy Mart locations in the month of February to join in the Boot campaign.
